Microsoft Imagine Cup 2012 announces Windows Metro Style App Challenge!

Today (January 18, 2012) the Microsoft Imagine Cup Team announced an exciting new challenge for Imagine Cup competitors – the “Windows Metro Style App Challenge” – more info here:

We’re Bringing the Platform. You Bring the Idea
“Windows 8” is coming and, with the Windows Metro Style App Challenge, we are asking students to be at the forefront of those creating applications for this new platform. Apps are the center of the Windows 8 experience and great apps start with you. This Challenge will test your Team’s ability to prototype a Metro style app that takes advantage of Windows 8 features and design principles to deliver an experience that solves one of the world’s toughest problems and wows not only us but those across the globe. Sign up and get ready to take your first quiz!

Get your questions ready! Join Windows Metro Style App Challenge Captain Jura Clapman on 15 February at 16:00 GMT or 16 February at 03:00 GMT via Live Meeting and ask her about competing in the Windows Metro Style App Challenge. Find out how. The Live Meeting sessions will also be recorded and posted on the Windows Metro Style App Challenge page under Helpful Links (on the right side).

Jura posted the following message to the Imagine Cup Forums:

Hi everyone,

I’m Jura Clapman, captain of the Windows Metro Style App Challenge. We in the Windows team are so proud to launch this challenge today to test your knowledge and creativity to use “Windows 8” to change the world! First, learn about Windows 8 and pass a quiz. Then get to the really exciting part – design and build a Metro style app of your own! We’ve put some links on the challenge page to get you started with developer resources and a link to download the Windows 8 Developer Preview build. More will follow when Round 2 starts. Don’t forget to read the rules document too – among other important pieces of information it outlines the criteria we’ll use to judge the entries, they’re there to guide you toward building a great app.

So, welcome to the challenge! I’m looking forward to hearing from you here and seeing all of your amazing ideas come to life.

Good luck to all!

Jura Clapman
Captain, Imagine Cup 2012 Windows Metro Style App Challenge
